Windows Live Skydrive

Windows Live Skydrive provides users (you and me) with 25Gb of online storage – free. It’s basically a resource that allows you to store, access, and share your files online with friends or co-workers, from anywhere. It’s a secure space (it’s password protected) and many people use it as a means to share large photos, files, and documents. You decide who sees your files.

Windows Skydrive is the mechanism that powers Microsoft Web Applications. It is here that your documents are stored. To get the documents “up there” you can simply drag and drop them onto the web. Each folder on SkyDrive has a unique Web address, so you can save the link as a favorite or copy-and-paste it into e-mail or other documents for direct access.

Accessing Windows Skydrive Within Office 2010

In the applications that comprise Microsoft Office 2010 you can access Windows Skydrive from the Backstage View. For example, suppose you’re working on a document in Word 2010 and you want to save it in Skydrive. Click on the File tab (Microsoft are no longer calling it the Office Button) and then click Share.

You can store it in a place that is either shared with everyone (the Public folder) or that is accessible by only you (My Documents). You can see similarities with the folder structure in Windows Explorer here.

Each place has its own URL on the web. When I choose to store a document in the Public folder, the location is:

When I store a document in My Documents, the location is:
