Have you seen the new Office Web Apps yet? They look remarkably like their desktop counterparts, albeit with reduced functionality. The similarity is uncanny, nevertheless. There are web based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, and to use them, you’ll need a Windows Live profile.

On signing into Windows Live, hover over the Office link at the top of the screen and you should see the following drop down menu.

Office Menu

You get the following options:

  • Recent documents – a list of documents you recently worked on
  • Your document – a list of all documents, including Excel workbooksand PowerPoint presentations
  • Your groups
  • New Word document
  • New Excel workbook
  • New PowerPoint presentation
  • New OneNote notebook

In additon to using the options on the drop down menu, you can also click on the Office link. This takes you to a central location where you can see a list of all your documents. Here, you can click on a particular document to work on it again, or you can click on any of the icons to the right (see below) to create a new document.
